Purple Peril News
December 2009

The Purple Buzz
For many people this has been a tough year. Many suffered with their health, and some still do. Others have been retrenched from their jobs, or through circumstances, had to make hard choices in their career path.

I also had a trying year, but kept my sanity by routinely going to the pool (it is meditation after all) and surrounding myself with positive people.

Swimmers seem to be the most positive people you can find. If you meet a swimmer who is a Wahooligan, they are bound to be fun. If you can count a Wahooligan as one of your friends, you are truly lucky

Swimmers are a strange breed, and where other people are worried about gaining weight over the holiday season, we are worried about where the closest pool is to that we can train.

You will find many people in the pool training for Midmar and Nationals.
Wahoo will have its undeniable presence at both these events.

Look out for the purple, and join us!

Nationals Open Water Newsflash!

The organizers of the Island Estate Canal swim at Haartbeesport have agreed to hold a 3km, open water swim for masters at their annual open water swim event.
The date of the above swim has been changed to the 21 March 2010 in order to accommodate SA Master Swimming.
The 3Km Swim for Masters (it is likely that non masters will also participate) will take place prior to other canal swim events which will be open to all.
All masters are encouraged to participate in the 3km event and to complete the attached entry form. Medals will be provided for masters who finish in 1st, 2nd or 3rd places in their respective age groups. In addition, all finishers will receive a commemorative medal. The water in the canal system of the Islands Estate is fantastically clean!!!
(See: www.theislandsestate.co.za)
A master may also participate in any other swim event held on the day. Masters entering any of these other events will not receive ‘masters’ medals.
Transport will be provided between Hillcrest Pool and Hartbeespoort but at an additional
(but reasonable) cost per participant. A map will be provided in the program for those wishing to use their own transport.
..in the swimming world however, we are in the middle of the season.

Pre-Nationals Breakfast
...as purple as possible
Hi Wahooligans

So....we have almost all of your Nationals forms and it is almost a Wahoo full house. Great turnout means lots of points so it is looking good for Wahoo and Nationals 2010!

Now all we have to do is decide what to wear at the Nationals Awards dinner. The theme is of course Soccer and we have been given Holland! We still looking for ideas for "costumes" so please send through any thoughts that you have.

Midmar is in only two weeks! If you know you have forgotten to do something it is making a pledge for Royden. It is really easy, just go on the Midmar website, find Royden Tustin and make the pledge! Wahoo as a club has pledged R500 - who can match it? Good luck Royden - for the swimming and the fund raising. We know you will do Wahoo proud.

Important Upcoming Dates:

6 Feb - Phoenix Gala @ Ellis Park (Entry forms on the Wahoo website)
7 Feb - Buffelspoort OW and relay time trials @ Wahoo Aquatics Center
13 & 14 Feb - Midmar
18 & 20 Feb - Tshwane Champs
21 Feb - Makhulu OW
27 Feb - Interregional Gala
7 March - pre-nationals breakfast (this is important so get it in your diary!)

Hope to see you on deck soon
Tracy
